Hiraeth 04:10
Hiraeth Long may our hope find a way to escape The box in the hall where we hid it that day Long may I see all she tries to hide Long may she be right by my side Long may the room where we sleep at night Hold us in its arms when we lose sight Long may we speak only honest words Long may we beat the odds against us Long may we go to the streets of this town Our concrete home where we can be found Long may we love with a fire in our hearts Unafraid of the ones who put out the spark Long may we know Long may we know Long may we know Long may we know Long live the night by the fire in the woods Our hearts opened wide for all to look
3.
Hidden Springs So hold your head up high Summer's round the bend You made it through these nights Using all of your defense But now has come the time As the air fills up with dust To look towards the sky Follow those flocks back to us Now we head towards the light Leave the darkness behind Those winter boots, leave them at the door Summer's here and though it's fine To head back from time to time Those hidden springs will show their face once more The barn it still stands strong Jack's a beacon in the night Your sister marches on But you're struggling with this fight Things will never be the same Like the carving of a stone You got to live within its grooves Take that rubble make a home Now we head towards the light Leave the darkness behind Those winter boots, leave them at the door Summer's here and though it's fine To head back from time to time Those hidden springs will show their face once more Now we head towards the light Leave the darkness behind Those winter boots, leave them at the door Summer's here and though it's fine To head back from time to time Those hidden springs will show their face once more Those hidden springs will show their face once more Those hidden springs will show their face once more Those hidden springs will show their face once more
4.
Against The Grain Here we go against the grain The wood that told us stay the same That change would only break these bones We took that wood, we made a home So give me time and give me strength Give me the patience of a saint Give me more than I can bare And I'll carry you away from here I'll carry you away from here You hid beneath my winter coat Take my hand we'll build a boat We'll leave this place these days behind Our own escape route we will mine So give me strength and honesty The kind that never bares its teeth And give me more than I can hold And we'll burn that wood to heat this home We'll burn that wood to heat this home
5.
Pick Up Our Boots The river thaws below The city stores its snow from winter storms But the mercury's on the rise Soon it will be time to let her go Toboggans put away Reminds me of the days when we'd still hope That the clocks would gain an hour And our t-shirt suntans proudly start to grow We'll pick up our boots Run beside the river on those tracks we took When we decide to giv'er In our hearts we know Alberta is the place that we'll call home Our breathe would fill the air Covered hands prepared to fight the cold High River's where we'd start The vein the bled the heart of all we koow The busker battles strong Fingerless mittens to make a chord Then I'll follow 82 It leads me back to you when I'm alone We'll pick up our boots Run beside the river on those tracks we took When we decide to giv'er In our hearts we know Alberta is the place that we'll call home Alberta is the place that we'd call home Alberta is the place
6.
Brighton Beach We stood there, Brighton Beach Morning tide dipped our feet We hadn't slept all that night Kept awake by the lights The flashing pier watched us while Tangled limbs danced around The embers still smoked away Our fire's burnt out since that day Where's the time, four months passed Parking lot smokes and glass Lay on the floor where we stand Covered limbs replaced that dance The two of us, like old ships Lost the map, coordinates We kept it up way too long What you hiding from
7.
Last Branch 02:57
Last Branch So where's the sense in all of this A love that pulled me from the midst Of a life just spend wandering Lays beaten on this snowy ground A shell of what it was we'd found Clinging on but falling down Those little clothes we went and bought Hidden in your knicker drawer Beneath the hope we'd ridden on Those little limbs we thought they'd warm Kept us waiting way too long Their absence seems to linger on No I can't be The last branch on this family tree Christmas always seems to hurt And this one couldn't get much worse But we've got one more fight in us So we'll pull out the hope we thought we'd lost Make a space and dust it off Give it time to warm to us I promise that one day my dear The fog will lift, the air will clear And tiny feet will wander here And when the darkness lifts on us We'll hold it closer just because We fought for what we almost lost No I won't be The last branch on this family tree
8.
All We Have 04:01
All We Have How do we know that here's where we belong How do we know the right from the wrong How do we know that things will get better How do we know that things will get better How do we know our hearts won't fail us How do we know the strength we need will always be found How do we know that things will get better How do we know that things will get better How do we know all we have will be enough How do we know that time won't change on us Because if all we have is each other Then that's enough Because if all we have is each other Then that's enough If all we have is each other Then that's enough If all we have is each other Then that's enough
9.
Go Take Me 02:32
Go Take Me I could die a happy man Because loving you was all I asked When the angels said just what's your plan I said go take me to her And I will do my best to show A man whose heart won't ever close Even on those day we know We haven't reached the bottom I'll know just when to bite my tongue To stand my ground but admit I'm wrong To take the weight she's pulled along Since her Daddy left her And I will do my best to be A man who'll listen quietly Won't try to fix all of her woes Just listen 'cos she knows, just listen 'cos she knows When she's distant, when she's curt I'll do my best to see to her Because she needs love most when she's at her worst I just hope I give it to her So when they put me in the ground I'll know that love I went and found Was the reason this was all allowed Now go take me to her, go take me to her
10.
You Feel Like Home You feel like home More than any four walls You're the building around me That creaks when I call You feel like home More than any bar stool Any short single malt Has me dreaming of you So tell my mother that I love her Tell my sister I care Tell my father I knew better, 'cos he was there You feel like home More than the streets that I pine You're the light from the landing That coaxed me inside You feel like home More than any post code No letters and numbers Could leave me feeling so low So tell my mother that I love her Tell my sister I care Tell my father I knew better, 'cos he was there You feel like home More than those beaten coast lines You're the ship that I boarded To leave them behind You feel like home But where that is is unclear Still that family we started Will soon lead us there So tell my mother that I love her Tell my sister I care Tell my father I knew better, 'cos he was there Tell my father I knew better, 'cos he was there
11.
I'm A Fighter Take my hand we'll lead off Down Main Street to Danforth We'll visit our old abode These days all I hope for Is someone to care or For someone to share the load I'm a drinker I'm a fighter for the ones I love I'm a thinker despite what they'd always think of us Yeah I miss you, fight the distance that has beaten us Yeah I need you, I still need you Be honest your heart don't Mean much if it can't grow So feed it all you can You built your own garden Made the most of Autumn But Christmas it came too soon I'm a drinker I'm a fighter for the ones I love I'm a thinker despite what they'd always think of us Yeah I miss you fight the distance that has beaten us Yeah I need you, I still need you I'm a drinker I'm a fighter for the ones I love I'm a thinker despite what they'd always think of us Yeah I miss you fight the distance that has beaten us Yeah I need you, I still need you I still need you
12.
Old Haunts 02:50
Old Haunts I wanna do it all with you So we can get old and talk it all through And speak about those trips we had The lakes of BC, our little London flat I wanna make you really laugh So we can grow grey, tell them jokes again I wanna see those trees we grew Eclipse this house and our children too I wanna see our city change So we'll have old haunts to while away the days I wanna sing those songs we wrote Even the dodgy ones when I couldn't hold a note I wanna make you fight your side Scream and shout till we're both tongue tied And argue until our face is blue But when we go to bed I'll still face you I wanna do it all with you So we can get old and talk it all through
13.
Seeds 04:21
Seeds So take them seeds, 'cos spring is near Cover them in dirt and peat We'll sit and watch your flowers grow Along with them your sense of hope We'll find a spot where come mid-day The sun will turn from light to shade And there you'll sit, dog by your side Some words to pass away the time Some words to pass away the time They'll take their time and soon they'll show A little love can heal a home And even if those days go by Deep beneath the dirt you'll find A patient ear, a little trust From those friends you kept just close enough They'll pay you back, not just in kind 'Cos they know open hearts are hard to find An open heart is hard to find

about

Struggling to start a family, Peter Stone and Denise MacKay, the married folk duo better known as 100 mile house, share their anguish & grief on their 4th album Hiraeth. Hiraeth, a Welsh word meaning a longing for something that may never have been, encapsulates the emotions the couple fought. Despite the pain, the couple's love shines through the delicate songs.

100 mile house are the Edmonton-based husband and wife folk duo Peter Stone and Denise MacKay.

They seem naturally attuned to life’s impermanence; the reality that we must cherish what we have, while knowing we must eventually let it go.
